Lewis Structure Example Problem - Formaldehyde

Lewis Structure Example Problem - Formaldehyde Lewis dot structures are used to predict the geometry of a molecule. You will be able to draw a Lewis structure of the formaldehyde molecule after using this equation. Question Formaldehyde is a toxic organic molecule with molecular formula CH2O. Draw the Lewis structure of formaldehyde. Step 1 Find the total number of valence electrons. Carbon has 4 valence electronsHydrogen has 1 valence electronsOxygen has 6 valence electronsTotal valence electrons 1 carbon (4) 2 hydrogen (2 x 1) 1 oxygen (6)Total valence electrons 12 Step 2 Find the number of electrons needed to make the atoms happyCarbon needs 8 valence electronsHydrogen needs 2 valence electronsOxygen needs 8 valence electronsTotal valence electrons to be happy 1 carbon (8) 2 hydrogen (2 x 2) 1 oxygen (8)Total valence electrons to be happy 20 Step 3 Determine the number of bonds in the molecule.number of bonds (Step 2 - Step 1)/2number of bonds (20 - 12)/2number of bonds 8/2number of bonds 4 Step 4 Choose a central atom.Hydrogen is the least electronegative of the elements, but hydrogen is rarely the central atom in a molecule. The next lowest electronegative atom is carbon.   Step 5: Draw a skeletal structure. Connect the other three atoms to the central carbon atoms. Since there are 4 bonds in the molecule, one of the three atoms will bond with a double bond. Oxygen is the only choice in this case since hydrogen only has one electron to share. Step 6: Place electrons around outside atoms. There are 12 valence atoms total. Eight of these electrons are tied up in bonds. The remaining four complete the octet around the oxygen atom. Each atom in the molecule has a complete outer shell full of electrons. There are no electrons left over and the structure is complete. The finished structure appears in the picture at the beginning of the example.

First Day Jitters Picture Book About Starting School

First Day Jitters Picture Book About Starting School First Day Jitters is an excellent book for an elementary school student (or first-time teacher) who is apprehensive about starting school. This humorous picture book was written by Julie Danneberg. Artist Judy Love created the comic and colorful illustrations in ink and watercolors. This is a funny book, with a surprise ending that will cause the reader to laugh out loud and then go back and read the entire story again. Kids starting middle school also find First Day Jitters amusing. A Story With a Twist Its the first day of school and Sarah Jane Hartwell does not want to get ready because she will be going to a new school. In fact, Sarah doesnt even want to get out of bed. When Mr. Hartwell tells her its time to get ready for school, she says, Im not going. Sarah complains that she hates her new school, I dont know anybody, and it will be hard, and...I just hate it, thats all. After much discussion, and no help from the familys feuding dog and cat, Sarah gets ready for school. By the time, Mr. Hartwell drops her off at school, she is terrified, but the principal greets her at the car and walks Sarah to her classroom. It is only on the last page  when Sarah is introduced to the class that the reader discovers that Sarah is not a student but the new teacher! The Author and Illustrator Author Julie Danneberg and illustrator Judy Love have continued the story of new teacher Sarah Jane Hartwell in the picture books First Year Letters (2003), Last Day Blues (2006), The Big Test (2011) and Field-Trip Fiasco (2015). First Day Jitters is also available in a Spanish edition Que Nervios! El Primer Dia de Escuela Julie Danneberg is a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is a middle school teacher and the author of picture books for younger children and nonfiction for older children. Her other picture books include: Monet Paints a Day, Cowboy Slim and Family Reminders. Her nonfiction books for middle-grade readers include: Women Writers of the West: Five Chroniclers of the Frontier, Women Artists of the West: Five Portraits in Creativity and Courage and Amidst the Gold Dust: Women Who Forged the West. In addition to illustrating Julie Danneberg’s books about Judy Love, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, has illustrated childrens picture books for a number of other authors. The books include: Can I Bring My Pterodactyl to School, Ms. Johnson?, Can I Bring Woolly to the Library, Ms. Reeder?, Prickly Rose and I’d Choose You! (Sources: Julie Danneberg, Charlesbridge: Judy Love, Charlesbridge: Julie Danneberg) My Recommendation I recommend First Day Jitters for children ages 4 to 8. I have found that children get a kick out of the surprise ending and also find it reassuring to know that they are not alone in being apprehensive about the first day of school. I have also discovered that the book appeals to kids making the transition from elementary to middle school because of the humorous situation it portrays. First Day Jitters also makes a good gift for new teachers. Teachers who want to share the book with their class will be pleased to find that the publisher has provided a First Day Jitters Discussion Activity Guide to download. (Charlesbridge, 2000. How Will Advances in Big Data, IT, Cloud Computing and Analytics Essay

How Will Advances in Big Data, IT, Cloud Computing and Analytics Impact Healthcare - Essay Example Cloud computing is the use of computer software and hardware over a network normally as a service. This means that in order for someone to use the software and hardware they do not need to have them physically, all they need is access to the network where the respective cloud network is located (Agha, 2012). A good example of cloud computing is where hospitals compile all their information centrally and staff with verified passwords can access the information irrespective of the geographical location. Analytics can be considered the communication and discovery of patterns in data sets. Analytics are normally used in areas where that have a lot of recorded information. Analytic greatly depends and relies on computer programming operations and statics. Analytics can be used in the healthcare system where patient information may be used to predict future trends in diseases and general health of the population. Healthcare has been curbed by a lot of problems. It is filled with a lot of setbacks and short comings. One of major inefficiencies of the healthcare system is the old filling system. This is where all records including patient records and disease records are stored in the manual hardcopy files. There are no softcopy backups thus making the hard copy files the only files on record. This has proved cumbersome since there are hospital records that date back to almost the 1900s. Finding such a record using the manual filing system is very difficult. As it is known, almost all disease and outbreaks repeat themselves in time. This means that doctors might be unable to identify some old diseases just because a record of the disease in the past cannot be located. Another major inefficiency in healthcare is administration. Administration in the healthcare system is very poor yet a lot of money is used in the administration of all health care system. This is double inefficiency. Administrating healthcare especially in underdeveloped countries is done in a

Kinship and Gender Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Kinship and Gender - Essay Example The process of identification begins in seeing how relationships are formed and how the realization of being in the need to reproduce comes into knowledge. It is rather innate in humans to have the push to reproduce. Not animalistic in nature, but it is indeed a part of human instinct that the need to reproduce is a must, perhaps not obviously or directly said through words, but the aggressive behavior of many individuals towards sexual relations today explains such truth (Stone 34). Believably, medical experts and psychologists agree on the same ground of understanding that people today tend to take consideration of the major aggressions that they feel and the morals are of a lower ground of definition in terms of fulfilling the aggressive push of the flesh. Through the years, the lesser recognition that human individuals post with regards the need to follow morals had been over thrown by the fact that people simply want to give way to their desires. Why so Basically, the instinct that exists in a person to reproduce is much stronger than that of the push of the mind to contain that need. Likely, not all falls on the trap of aggression, some of the people though willingly submit to the push of the said desires. It is unknowingly realized by many that their bodily aggressions control them successfully through letting themselves be guided by their desires and not by what they know is right. As a result, the social dilemma on teenage pregnancy and early parenthood has been brought about into existence. The truth behind the growing phenomenon is rather supported by the fact that many families today are only composed of single parents who are trying to pursue the life of their children as some of the partners who left did not actually realize the role that they are taking in the process of reproduction. Unlike animals, humans are driven by the desire and are expected to have the knowledge of what they are doing. This especially concerns their fleshly desires. One simply cannot give way to that desire and believe that it stops there. Reproduction comes with responsibilities of parenthood. It is through this realization that a man and woman take their place in the identification of gender roles among human individuals. The idea is not simply to reproduce for the sake giving way to aggression, but for the sake of realizing the role that each one agreed to take part of. To some, the complete recognition of both elements of human recognition is not that vivid at all. In fact, some may insist that human relationships based on sexual desires are part of the development of the human society. This though has caused many issues among individuals believing and perceiving that sexual relations are mere establishments of their role as men and women, a basic truth derived as a major understanding of the roles that each one take in the process of reproduction. Conclusion In this regard, it is strongly suggested that the thought of being humans be strongly applied in the recognition of one's role as a person and as an individual who simply wants to take his or her place in the normative ways of human existence. What is meant by the thought of being human Basically, instinct is not the ruling edge of every human individual but knowledge. Through the

Biblical Foundations Essay Example for Free

Biblical Foundations Essay Curriculum development is establishing a plan of what a school is going to teach during a school year. The time frame of the curriculum can vary from a quarter to a semester to even being taught the entire school year. Wayne (2010) suggests that each individual’s personal biblical worldview impacts each person in their beliefs and opinions about curriculum development differently. The stance taken by this individual is that of trying to see things in the manner that God would want. God is all knowing and being all knowing, He knows what is best in all things at all times. The Bible says: â€Å"For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together† (Colossians 1:16-17). Developing a curriculum is not to be taken lightly. Prayer, studying the word of God, and meditation must all be a part of the development. The role of teachers is to not only teach our students the curriculum that is set before them but to be a leader and a role model. Being a role model is a scary concept. Scary because it means that one is to not just use the words that they speak but they are to show it by the way they act and live their life. Christian teachers have a tremendous job to accomplish. They influence not only the other teachers around them but also the students that they are around every day. The curriculum that is being taught is of the utmost importance but the Christian witness that is being shown is of even more importance. The public school system does not make this easy for those who are Christians. Speaking the word of God is prohibited within this setting. Knowing this, as Christian teachers, being a deliberate Christian role model is of the utmost importance. Many might say that this is impossible but that is far from the truth. The Bible says: â€Å"With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible† (Matthew 19:26). The Bible also says: â€Å"†¦Everything is possible for him who believes† (Mark 9:23). Teachers are some of the most innovative and creative people. Christian teachers are to use this to their benefit. The God we serve is the one and only living God and through him, all things are possible. This makes the possibilities of being a good Christian role model limitless. The role of the learner today should be one of wanting to learn. Teachers can encourage this by using student-centered learning according to Blumberg (2008). This can be a very powerful way of getting the learner to want to learn. Student-centered learning does not have to be the entire focus of the class. The focus here could be put into place after the teacher has instructed the students. In a ninety minute class, the teacher is more than able to instruct the students, and then put them in student-centered learning. This helps the learner to focus on what they have learned and not on what the teacher is teaching according to Blumberg (2008). The approach here helps the learner to focus on what they need to be doing and less time on what is going on around them. In our society today, the biblical worldview is quickly being taken away while the modern worldview is silently creeping in to the minds of everyone. Scripture tells us: â€Å"†¦Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light† (2 Corinthians 11:14). We, as Christians, are becoming so conditioned to being politically correct that we are forgetting what is biblically correct. We sit back and think that if we just ignore what is going on, then it will just go away. Instead of that, things have gotten worse and even our young children and adults are beginning to believe that what is taking place is alright. No prayer in school, it is the holiday break not Christmas break, it is spring break not Easter. A worldview is what we develop because of what is going on around us. Many do not even realize that their worldview is being formed or altered. When asked what their worldview is, many cannot even explain it, let alone tell you where their view came from. Today’s Christian society needs to step up and take a stance on what needs to be taught within our public schools. Many in our Christian society have pulled their children out of the public school system to either put them into private Christian schools or to homeschool them. Although this is not wrong, it is not accurate either. The government of today has been shaped and is being shaped by the beliefs of many different religions. â€Å"The U. S. was the first western nation to be founded predominately by Protestants — not Roman Catholics. That fact alone expresses America’s willingness to experiment with the novel and a defiance of tradition. Its history includes the emergence of utopian experiments, religious fanaticism, and opening the door to such exotic religions as Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Taoism. Such has been the winding road of religious evolution in America† (History of Religion in America). In trying to make the United States a place of religious freedom, our government has instead made the life of a Christian more difficult. The government’s role in our society should be that of making sure that our children are educated to the standard possible. Although religious viewpoints should be left up to the families of the children, the government still needs to maintain that our freedom is not taken away within the schools. There does need to be guidelines that need to be established but without the persecution of believers of Christ. The church needs to be very careful when getting involved with curriculum development outside of Christian schools. There are so many beliefs that are out there that if the church were to get too involved, the government could and has stepped in to tell us that all has to be taught or expressed. This is where the parents need to step up to the plate. Parents can become and should become a part of the school. Becoming a part of the Parent Teacher Organization is a good start. Getting to know the teachers and expressing to them the needs that should be better met for the students should be of the utmost important. Parents have the right to have a say in the development of the school curriculum. Done in the proper manner, parents can even have a powerful impact on the curriculum their children are taught. Being a part of the process instead of being a part of the problem is the best plan any parent should be a part of for their child. Teachers, learners, society, government, church and family all have an important role in developing curriculum. Each on has a specific role that affects each and every one of us. Teachers and learners work together every day. They get to know each other on a level that can and should encourage trust with one another. Society and government go hand in hand in expressing what the people of that particular area want. Church and families hold the values we want our children to have as well as the standards of life we want. The development of curriculum is to be held to a high standard. Each group that is listed above help to provide the high standard that our children deserve in the educational field.

Hamburger and Materials Management Essay

Resources: Ch. 12 of Introduction to Business. Read the Developing Good Business Sense activity on p. 394 of the text. Answer Questions 1–4 from the activity in a 700- to 1,050-word paper in APA format. Post your paper as an attachment. | The operations of a company consist of three stages. These stages are simple: the input, the operations, and the output stages. The process of the input stage includes raw materials, components, labor and customers. The operations process involves the skills, knowledge, machines, and experts needed to operate the company. As far as the output stage, this involves what we physically use or experience from the company, known as the goods and services (Jones, 2007). Every company, whether it be services such as hair and nails, serving, or patient care, or goods being sold such as jewelry, wholesale businesses, or a corporation like ShopRite or Wal-Mart, they all experience these stages uniquely. Each company runs experiencing input, operations, and output stages, but each stage is handled differently according to what kind of business, what is being offered, and who is running it. The activities that regulate the course of the resources between these particular stages is what we call materials management. Materials management helps operate these stages smoothly and effectively, providing necessities and organization (Jones, 2007). Let’s take a look at three different businesses and how each one handles materials management and the three operational stages. The first company that is going to be observed is Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is a company that has developed over the years into being a commonly recognized place to get everyday necessities for a great price. The process of operations for a business such as Wal-Mart is simple compared to others. The input stage focuses on what is needed for the company to run, such as, labor and employees, contact with a wholesaler, and more all while keeping the customers in mind. Wal-Mart strives to keep a friendly staff and low prices in order to keep the customer’s best interest and loyalty. The way Wal-Mart would go about doing this is hiring qualified staff and train them to best suit the company, and forming an alliance with suppliers that offer products at low prices. As far as the operations of Wal-Mart, they hire the best suited people with the skills and knowledge of this type of company’s operations. They are equipped with machinery and constantly updating in order to keep up with latest trends. With their input and operations, comes the output stage. This is where the goods and services that Wal-Mart offers is placed into the market for consumers to decide. Mentioned previously, Wal-Mart strives to meet the every need of customers providing a great shopping experience. So far, Wal-Mart is still one of the most successful companies of its kind and doesn’t look like anything is going to change that anytime soon. The second company that was observed is Burger King. Burger King is a fast food restaurant business that has a lot of competition. The slogan, â€Å"Have it Your Way,† has allowed Burger King to make way for success. The operations behind this slogan is a bit more complicated. The input of Burger King consists of associations with suppliers in order to have the best quality possible for a frozen, fast food restaurant. From the supplies of burgers, to fries, milkshakes and salads, Burger King is not going to have a supplier produce outdated food or else that would be horrible materials management. The operations stage of Burger King is figuring out new ways to produce faster and better food and service to its customers while living up to its slogan. Doing this, Burger King would have to make sure everything is up to date and employees are equipped with the skills and knowledge to come up with new innovations to suit the needs of the company. The output stage of Burger King is providing the service fast and efficiently. Making sure that all food is sanitary and delivered quickly. The third company that was observed is St. Joseph’s Hospital. This is a hospital that specializes in critical care and emergencies. The operations of this hospital is crucial because it is not only service, but it holds people’s lives at stake. The input of the hospital would be having ownership of the supplies and relationships with suppliers. This way when it comes to operations stage, the best and most updated equipment is ready for use and can provide the best service possible. Between these two stages, the best and most skilled doctors, nurses, and staff are hired in order to ensure safety and health. As far as the output stage of St. Joseph’s Hospital, the services provided are high-quality service and safety. As we look at these companies, we can see that a lot goes into operations behind the service and goods we receive as consumers. The way a company designs its operating system is crucial for success. The input, operations, and output are only a part of what is contributed. It is the materials management, the flow of how things are ran that really makes or breaks the backbone of a business. The way the systems are designed will give one company an advantage over another. Using materials management effectively and really going into detail about research will give a company more of an advantage than another. It will help a business increase its productivity, innovation, quality, and most importantly, its responsiveness to customers. Not only does the operations come into effect when running a successful business, but costs are a big part as well. Operations and materials management costs, also known as, OMM, consist of many costs pertaining to a company. The main costs of OMM are, raw materials and components, plant, labor, inventory, and distribution (Jones, 2007). These costs affect companies’ operations because each cost if part of the operating system. Without effectively running operations, costs will run a business†¦ out of business. Including costs during the operating process is a crucial way to success. This is all a part of materials management! References Jones, G. R. (2007). Once Upon a Time

In the poem â€Å"Once Upon a Time,† by Gabriel Okara, the persona is reflecting on the behavioral patterns of people in the present and the past hence using ‘once upon a time’ as the first line suggesting this was a long time ago. He then begins to compare the differences between how he acted as a child and how much that has changed now that he is an adult and a father . This poem is about a man growing up and losing the innocence he once had as a child. While in the poem â€Å"Forgive my Guilt,† by Robert Coffin, the persona committed an awful thing. As a boy he loved to shoot birds but it came to pass that one day he started to realize that the things he had done were â€Å"sins† line 1 captures this â€Å"not always sure what things called sins maybe†. In the poem he starts to recall the moment in which he killed the two birds the poet uses the imagery in line 4 and line 8 to capture this 4â€Å"I lay in the frost flowers with a gun† , â€Å"8my gun went off they ran with broken wings†.The persona in â€Å"once upon a time,† feels as if he has adapted all too well to the hypocrisy of the world using lines 20-24 â€Å"I have learned to wear many faces like dresses- home face, office face, street face, host face, cocktail face, with all their conforming smiles like a fixed portrait smile†, he uses the word conforming suggesting this is a permanent feature for example the face of a politicians wife, the persona has mastered the art of being a hypocrite. The persona desperately wants to change, he expresses his desires in lines 34-36 says â€Å"I want to be what I used to be when I was like you, I want to unlearn all these muting things†, this suggests that he wants to be like who he was when he was a child, before he was brought in to learning the muting like things of the world, he wants to go back to being hospitable, genuine, true, sincere etc. While the boy in the poem â€Å"Forgive m y Guilt,† is eager to kill without knowing the consequences, now a man he is haunted by his past actions no matter how he tries to get over his sins even as an adult he cannot. This is seen in lines 17-19 â€Å"the cries went out one day, but I still hear them all over, the sounds of sorrow in war or peace I ever have heard, time cannot drown them†. The deaths made him feel sorry, sad and pity during the beginning, when they died he knew he cost them everything and felt guilty. The author expresses it again in lines 23-24, â€Å"I have hoped for years all that is world, airy, and beautiful will forgive my guilt. † In the poem â€Å"Once Upon a Time† and â€Å"Forgive My Guilt,† several literary devices can be found such as similes and puns. One example of a simile in the poem â€Å"Once Upon a Time,† can be found in line 23-24 â€Å"with all their conforming smiles like a fixed portrait smile. These lines were used by the poet to express the general image that was shown throughout the persona’s adult life . The word conforming is derived from the word ‘conform,’ which means to comply with rules, standards or laws or   behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards: â€Å"the pressure to conform†. The persona was pushed to conform to the ways of the world â€Å"the muting things. † It wasn’t socially acceptable to show your true feelings, it was normal for him to behave hypocritically. The line also says, â€Å"like fixed portrait smiles,† this tells us that no matter where the persona went he had that portrait like smile, it was a permanent feature that came with him. This line is very effective it emphasizes how people behaved. In the poem â€Å"Forgive My Guilt† a pun was identified in line 21 where it says â€Å"two airy things forever denied the air† this line has two significant meanings: one , that the birds were denied the air becaus e they were unable to fly and two, they are no longer going to be able to breathe (they are dead). These lines are very effective. The poet gives to us, the reader, an evoking mental image of what the persona denied the two birds. In both poems there is a sense of guilt, in â€Å"Forgive My Guilt† there was the guilt of the past and in the poem â€Å"Once Upon a Time† there was the guilt of the present. The poems reflect childhood experiences and how it affected the present state of each persona.

Amazon Kindle Marketing Strategy Essay Example

Amazon Kindle Marketing Strategy Essay Example Amazon Kindle Marketing Strategy Paper Amazon Kindle Marketing Strategy Paper Kindle DX Marketing Strategy Analysis Launching any product requires a lot of planning and forethought. Without a proper plan, it becomes difficult to design the most appropriate marketing strategy than can lead the way towards success. The 4 P’s We must analyze the 4 P’s i. e. the product, price, place and promotion. In the case of Kindle DX launch, the type of product is relatively new in the market. For this unique kind of product, which seems to be an advanced version of book, it might take time before the target market can realize the importance of the product to them. To cross this stage, promotion of the product is necessary. The product is an enhancement over its predecessors in terms of its screen size which changes it target market more towards college students, who can interpret this device as ebook reader. Promotion The company is using the below the line marketing strategy. One aspect of this strategy is the word-of-mouth method, which involves the promotion undertaken by the buyers of product themselves. The company firmly believes that this method can bring more success than other methods. However, relying to the large extent on just one method exposes the company to risks of negative publicity because unsatisfied buyers can spread negative information about the product. The company virtually has no control over this method of marketing unless they supplement it with above the line advertising such as internet advertising and through select print media, especially those which are more often viewed by the target market. Price The price of the product seems to be high for the chosen target market. The lighter backpack is one advantage paid off from the high price but the device does not fully addresses the requirements of a college student. A college student with a cheaper mini or a laptop has far more options than the one having just the E-book reader. The device lacks a browser, color display and also the advantage of viewing a video. Learning today is becoming more integrated; a college student today may often view videos related to studies such as lectures and documentaries. Thus a college student with a laptop or mini may find it heavier to carry an additional device (Vaknin). Here we can also make it clear that the company should have looked upon the requirements of the target market before deciding whether they should launch the product in the first place. One can argue that the free access to wireless internet and highly discounted prices of electronic textbooks can justify the high price, however, the manufacturer has failed to take account of the second hand books market where a printed textbook can be purchased for half the price and this could be cheaper than an electronic book or just as expensive as a electronic book offered by Amazon. But still, the device cannot display the colors in the book which might not be liked by the readers. Another justification to high price is the larger screen which is capable for reading newspapers coupled with an agreement with the major US newspapers to provide newspapers to Kindle DX. This advantage led to speculations that the device is destined for newspaper readers, but it was made clear that this device is designed for the college students. Place The company has decided to distribute the device in a large pilot project. Reid, 5) Under that, the company will supply the device to about five universities instead of the books it usually supplies. This mode of distribution has several advantages. It is one of the ways to somehow make the product ubiquitous and assert that the device is as essential to a college student as textbook have been till date. If the pilot project succeeds as planned, then the device would be voluntarily be bought by the students. Amazon defends the positio n that the pilot project is designed to lead students to later make voluntary purchases. They say that the device is already popular and present the evidence that kindle version of electronic textbooks ordered on their website are one third of all purchases, although they do not produce further information as to what number of the previous version of the device has been sold. The distribution is designed to make sure that the product reaches the target market and there are greater chances of the product being associated with the target market. To make sure that people link the device to the target market, the company makes claims that the predecessor device is being purchased mostly by readers than gadget lovers. Any potential buyer has to visit the Amazon. com in order to acquire the device. Limiting the source of supply is important because the website itself can be used as promotional tool and the message can be effectively controlled. With the control over distribution, the company has control over the sales if any buyback has to be issued for any reason. For instance if after a month or so, a defect has been detected for a certain batch of the device, the device can be called off much easily because the website stores information about the buyer who can be contacted for a buyback or replacement. With their own distribution, the company has the advantage of knowing whether its products are being bought by its intended target market. Value Propositions The device USP i. e. unique selling proposition is a large screen e-book reader that is lighter than a typical textbook and can replace many of students’ textbooks in the backpacks. This is the USP that the company is projecting into the minds of their target market. To further describe the USP, the device is pioneered to be a perfect replacement of a typical text book. Additional features such as the ability to display newspapers has been downplayed by the projected proposition in an attempt to keep the focus on the target market. This proposition can be projected into the minds of the target market through advertisements because an advertisement is a constant reminder that leads to the creation of an appropriate image in the minds of consumers. The product can be position largely through this method. However, in order to frame the image in the consumer’s mind, it would not be a good idea to use the way iPod is positioned because the target market of the e-book reader is narrower than that of iPod. It is in fact a even smaller segment of the iPod target market itself. What the company seems to have failed is to counter the perception that iPhone and other such gadgets can replace the need for having a electronic textbook reader. They have little to respond to such a question as to what additional features they have over the iPhone which can also act as a e-book reader although with a smaller display and low battery life. What more it has failed is to counter the cheaper mini-laptops which can provide more features than the Kindle DX. Target Market By limiting the target market to just college students, the company is compromising on its other potential markets such as daily newspaper readers especially those working in professions such as executives and entrepreneurs. They are also losing other markets. However the company has considered the most heavy users of book i. e. college students as having the requirement of books either in paper or electronic form, to benefit from lighter backpacks. They have decided to pursue this target market due to its large size, which can atleast provide a sustainable market. The company has missed out the requirements of their intended target market and may also have made assumptions without having evidence. It would have been better if they could have conducted an extensive market survey in all potential markets before assessing which one would respond better. Announcing the launch to see negative comments and then being defensive is not a viable solution. It creates more negative publicity. Rather the company should have properly addressed the comments Pricing Because the device is expensive to develop, it is highly priced. Fowler and Ovide, B12) Technology products are usually expensive in the beginning and become inexpensive as successive versions are launched. The wireless option does not seem to be very vital for such a device because users can download from their personal computers and simply transfer the files to the device. This will reduce the price. Following a subscription option will make the device cheaper but it will be expensive to the us ers in the long run if they read a lot of books. It would be better if the company issues two packages, one with subscription option. Those readers who have a few books to read will take the cheaper option where they can buy the electronic books to read. Availability Because the product is new, it is best if the distribution is done directly by the company. This will provide the company with more control over the promotion of the same because they can easily control the message. Having the product for sale on the website can also help the company resolve issues of negative publicity, which can be quite common in the case of new products. (Mahajan, Muller and Kerin , 1390) Forscasting of Future Sales It would be the best strategy to conduct a market survey where the target market is asked disguised questions as to what would influence them to buy the product. For the survey, the secondary data analysis can be done to find the probable variables or factors affecting the purchase decision. Then a seasonal regression analysis, semester by semester can be used to forecast from the change in the variables with account to their intensities of influence on purchase decisions. Competitors For now, Kindle seems to be stronger that its competitors in terms of features. Taylor, 21) To face competition, the company should let the competitors respond to its new product. This can provide them with information that can be helpful for developing better versions. They can change their market strategy in the future. They can widen their distribution to other online shopping websites and retail outlets in an attempt to reach more of their target market. Agreements with several universities can prov ide protection for the short term and the company should take advantage of these periods to continuously improve their products. As with many other technology products, it will have to reduce its price. Mohr, Sengupta and Slater, 13) Conclusion Launching a new product is a difficult task. It requires a lot of forethought. But what is more difficult is to make is successful and prolong its life. This can involve continuous improvement in the product, its distribution and its marketing strategy. Fowler, Geoffrey A. 11 Romantic Spanish Love Quotes (With English Translation)

Romantic Spanish Love Quotes (With English Translation) SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Ah, love. Who doesn’t get weak in the knees when they read great love quotes? And since Spanish is a romance language, it makes sense that some of the best quotes about love are in Spanish! But more importantly, reading and understanding quotes is a great way to prepare you for your Spanish SAT and Spanish AP exams. That’s because they often rely on figurative language, which means that the literal translation is different than the phrase’s actual meaning. By studying quotes like these, you gain a better understanding of how to speak, read, and understand Spanish on a more advanced level. In this post, we’re going to help you prepare for your exams by giving you a list list of the best Spanish love quotes with English translation. For each quote, we’ll: Give you the love quote in Spanish Provide the English translation Discuss the meaning of the quote Ready? Let’s get started! Spanish Love Quote #1: A Quote About Eternity Prefiero un minuto contigo a una eternidad sin ti. This sentence literally translates to, â€Å"I prefer a minute with you than an eternity without you.† In other words, you’d rather know (and love!) a person for a short amount of time than live a full life having never known them at all. It’s incredibly romantic...which is why we chose it to kick off our list! This line also teaches you how to set up a comparison in Spanish. You can use the basic form of this sentence to show how one thing is better than the other, which is going to be an important skill for the written portion of your Spanish exams. Memorizing a quote like this one is like having a little grammar shortcut that you can whip out at any time. Spanish Love Quote #2: A Quote About Fighting Rià ±en a menudo los amantes, por el gusto de hacer las paces. Literally, this quotation translates to, â€Å"Lovers quarrel often for the pleasure of making peace.† However, there’s a more figurative way to think of this line, too. At its core, this quote is about passion. In passionate relationships, there’s often a thin line between arguing and attraction. That’s why it’s so common to see this happen in romantic movies. One of our favorite scenes is this one from The Notebook: iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EemLsTG5fX8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen/iframe This scene shows us that the quote might be right: making up is the best part of a lover’s quarrel! Spanish Love Quote #3: A Quote About Changing Someone Amar a alguien para hacerlo distinto significa asesinarle. The word-for-word translation of this quote is a little gruesome. Literally, it means, â€Å"Loving someone to make them different means murdering them.† But more accurately, this quote is saying that loving someone to try and change who they are is a recipe for disaster. That’s because you’re actually not in love with the person your significant other is...you’re in love with this ideal person you wish they could become! In the end, this quote warns us that trying to change the person you love- rather than loving them for who they are- results in unhappiness for everyone. Spanish Love Quote #4: A Quote About Fear El mayor obstculo para el amor es el temor secreto de no ser dignos de ser amados. This line translates to, â€Å"The greatest obstacle to love is the hidden fear of not being worthy of being loved.† For many people, love can be difficult...but it can sometimes be compounded by how we feel about ourselves. In fact, research suggests that good self-esteem is important to having healthy relationships. In this case, this quote reminds us that it’s just as important to love ourselves as it is to love someone else. Spanish Love Quote #5: A Quote About Young Love Amor de nià ±o, agua en cestillo. Okay, this is one of those quotes where you just have to remember the figurative meaning. Literally, this quote translates to, â€Å"Love of a child, water in basket.† Which, to be fair, doesn’t make much sense at all! In actuality, this quote is saying that young love is fickle. Yeah, we know: it’s one of those things you just have to memorize to understand. (English is full of these idioms that make no sense, like â€Å"cool as a cucumber† for being good under pressure.) But knowing idiomatic phrases like this one- and using them correctly!- can be pretty impressive when you’re writing your exam essays. Spanish Love Quote #6: A Quote About Heartbreak Hay mucho ms donde elegir. What do you do when you- or a friend- goes through a really bad break-up? You know, the type where you were head-over-heels in love, but for some reason, the other person didn’t feel the same? That’s where this quote can come in handy. It translates to, â€Å"There’s a lot more out there to choose from.† But it’s closer in meaning to the English saying, â€Å"there are plenty of fish in the sea.† Heartbreak is painful, and sometimes it feels like you lost â€Å"the one† for you. But this quote is a good reminder that the world is a big place! While breakups are tough, they’re also temporary. If you’re brave enough- and follow the advice from Quote #4 above!- you can find love again. Spanish Love Quote #7: A Quote About Partnership Amar no es mirarse el uno al otro, es mirar juntos en la misma direccià ³n. This sentence has the same literal and figurative meaning. It translates to, â€Å"Love it’s not to look at each other, it’s to look together towards the same direction.† Is loving someone enough for a long, happy relationship? According to this quote, there might be more to it than just affection. And actually, science seems to support this. This article from Psychology Today explains that common reasons for relationships failing are having different expectations or priorities in life than your partner. This quote teaches us that love about more than just thinking the other person is attractive, or even caring deeply about your partner. Long-lasting, loving relationships involve working with your partner to determine where your lives are going, so you can ensure you’re both heading in the same direction. Spanish Love Quote #8: A Quote About Motivation El amor todo lo puede. This sentence translates to, â€Å"Love can do everything.† In other words, love is a powerful motivator. This is a favorite topic of feel-good news stories like this one about a father who runs triathlons with his disabled son, or this story about this man who donated his kidney to his best friend. These are just a few examples of how love can motivate us to do things for other people that we never thought possible. And while that might seem anecdotal at first, science actually supports this idea. Whether it’s love for a partner, a family member, a friend, or even a pet, love can drive us to accomplish amazing things! Spanish Love Quote #9: A Quote About Pain Donde hay amor, hay dolor. But as we all know, love can also be painful, too. That’s why we’ve included this quote in our list, which translates to â€Å"Where there’s love, there’s pain.† Oftentimes, we immediately think of a bad break-up or a divorce as an example of love causing pain. But there are different types of love, too! For example, let’s say you love your school, but your parents get new jobs and you have to move to a new city. You’d probably be pretty upset about it, right? That pain is a result of the love you feel for your teachers and friends. And you’re not alone in feeling a love/pain connection: scientists now believe that love and pain are neurologically interconnected! Given all of that, it's tempting to think of this quote as warning us against love, but that’s not the case. Rather, this saying is a reminder that pain is the price of love, but it doesn’t mean that loving isn’t worth it in the end. Spanish Love Quote #10: A Quote About Dislike No hay amor perdido entre nosotros. This quote, which translates to â€Å"there is no love lost between us,† comes from the famous Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. Cervantes is perhaps the most famous Spanish author of all time, and he’s most well known for writing Don Quixote. Before he became a writer, Cervantes served in the Spanish military and took part in naval battles as part of the Spanish navy marines. That meant he saw the animosity between people firsthand, so he definitely knew what he was talking about when he wrote this line. To say that there’s â€Å"no love lost† between you and someone else is a polite way to say that you don’t like another person or thing. In fact, it means that you don’t like them at all! (For example, as far as we’re concerned, there’s no love lost between us and Croc shoes, dill pickles, and people who litter). This is just another example of the ways that love and other emotions can be tied together. Spanish Love Quote #: When You Want to Be Honest (but Funny) El amor entra por la cocina. Our last Spanish love quote is another one that has a literal and a figurative translation. Literally, this sentence means, â€Å"Love enters through the kitchen.† But what it’s really saying is that the quickest way to a person’s heart is through their stomach. And if that’s not true, we don’t know what is! The 20 Words and Phrases You Need to Know to Write Your Own Romantic Spanish Quotes Like we mentioned before, the quotes above can help you start to understand Spanish a little better. Do you think political polarization is bad or good for democracy in Essay

Do you think political polarization is bad or good for democracy in the United States today - Essay Example pen are: ethnic or religious violence and counter attacks resulting in more violence; ideological integrity instead of taking opportunistic positions with the sole purpose of winning the ensuing election; fundamental changes in the electoral system making it inevitable for the candidate to encourage one’s core supporters than to appeal to the median voter; the system of proportional representation is conducive to the last choice. Political polarization is the normal process of democracy, but if it were to take an extreme posture it is bad for United States today, as the country has to tackle many issues at the global level. It is facing severe economic competition from China and the threat from the Muslim fundamentalists to its security is real. The need of the hour is not political polarization but total unity, irrespective of party affiliations. A strong opinion is expressed by the think-tanks and analysts of political situation in USA, that in recent times, increasing polarization is seen. Jim Jeffords’ resignation from the Republican Party in 2001 is one such instance. He felt that the party was increasingly on the verge of polarization and the moderate voices are not allowed say. Ex-President Bill Clinton expressed the view in Daily Show on 9/18/06 that he believes that the Republican Party stands for polarization. Democracy doesn’t mean that the ruling and the opposition parties need to be permanently at war with each other. The supreme objective is the good of the country, and the responsible parties understand this fact. At times, an ordinary citizen who has no deep understanding of the working styles of the politicians, thinks that some illusion of policy differences, some incidents of cross, are the harbingers of the split in the party. The Senators of the same party who sometimes cross swords in public through newspapers, electronic media, etc often have the hidden agenda. They wish to gauge the moods of the public and wish to please every

Case Study Report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Case Study Report - Essay Example According to the latest figures unemployment is down to 7.4 percent. In 2008, the global financial crisis led UK into the deepest and longest recession ever in their history. But the good news is that the consumer spending is rising because of cheap and easy credit. The GDP of the country which is the main economic growth indicator rose by 0.8 percent in Q3 2013. This shows that the country is slowly recovering (Henry, 2008, p. 217). Social forces The changes in social and cultural factors have a profound effect on the fashion industry. The shopping habits in UK are beginning to evolve because of the rapid ageing population and migration trends which are changing the ethnic makeup of the towns and cities. According to KPMG, over the next ten years, around two-thirds of all the retail spending growth in UK will come from people who are aged 55 or above. The main challenge to the Fashion retailers in UK is to come to terms with the ageing population of UK and change their product portf olio according to their specific demands and tastes. Technical forces The fashion retailers are now developing online business models which complement the traditional form of retailing like the brick and mortar retailing. The fashion retailers are also making their presence across social networking sites where they can interact with their customers. Legal Forces The UK retail business has to comply with a number of regulations like Minimum wage legislation. This requires the UK employers to pay a minimum of ?6.19 on hourly basis to the employees aged above 21. They have to incorporate equal opportunities legislation and other parliament acts so that they can ensure equality both in the recruitment and selection and in the work place. Key trends potential trends Over the past 20 years the fashion retail industry has become one of the world’s most fiercely competitive industries in retail sector. There have been major structural changes in the way a fashion retailer do business . In the early 1990s there were a few big retail fashion players like Next, Littlewoods, and Spencer’s. Now the market is more crowded with players like Arcadia, Primark, Inditex and Forever 21 fighting to own larger market share. The major change has been the rise of internet. Majority of the fashion retailers are now going online to make their business global. The fashion retailers have created new standards for themselves. According to a study in the next five years, 40 percent of all the high street stores are up for renewal. Stores are getting more exciting for the customer to visit. Another important change is that the customers now get more value for their price. Both the cost prices and the selling prices have now fallen and the customers can now get superb quality of material at much lower price as compared to 20 years ago (Sadler, 2003, p. 164). Environmental forces The physical environment in which fashion retail industry operates in UK is relatively benign as comp ared to other areas in the world which suffers from natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes and forest fires. But the customers are becoming more aware of the impact business has on their
